MINISTRY STAFF JOB DESCRIPTION
Status: Full-time (2-year contract), salaried
Hours: 40 hours per week
Start date: Position begins immediately
General Purpose of Position:
To build young disciples for Christ by developing and implementing a comprehensive approach to youth ministry in areas of discipleship, mission, and outreach while serving as a spiritual leader and role model.
Primary Task:
- to love youth where they are
- to encourage youth in developing their relationship to God
- to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ with inactive and unchurched youths
- to provide youths with opportunities for nurture and growth
- to challenge youths to respond to God’s call to serve in their communities and world
Responsibilities:
A. Direct Ministry:
- Help plan, develop, and implement the overall ministry programs at AFC, being accountable to the Director of Ministry for purposes of supervisory support.
- Identify, develop, and disciple youth leaders.
- Make yourself available to youth in a variety of ways (ex. lunch at school, times of crisis, etc.)
- Be an advocate for youth about the hopes, concerns and needs of youth in the local church and community
- Be aware of resources for developing the youth ministry programming
- Be a liaison between the church and other community organizations, people, and resources that relate to youth and youth ministry
- Keep records of youth participation and manage the youth ministry budget
- Communicate in a timely manner and as effectively as possible using all available resources (email, website, bulletin, newsletter, etc.) with local churches and supporters.
- Work in concert with the gifts and talents of other staff members and maintain a teamwork mentality.
- Ensure that the Child Protection Policy is observed in all youth ministry settings
- Will participate in program and event related fundraising activities of AFC
- May be responsible for raising personal deputation during period of employment in accordance to AFC Staff Policy Manual updates
- Will provide written ministry reports as per request of the Director of Ministry for communication purposes.
- Will understand and adhere to the Current AFC Staff Policy Manual
- Will assist in the maintenance and upkeep of the AFC Center facility and equipment
- Must be actively involved in a local church community with good standing.
- Must be a disciple of God, committed to life-long obedience to the Father, by Jesus Christ, through the Holy Spirit.
- Will pursue an active, growing relationship with God.
- Will strive to maintain a healthy balance between ministry and personal time
- Will seek out and participate in ongoing professional development events and training opportunities
- Will participate in a small group or mentoring relationship, meeting regularly for encouragement, support and accountability
Qualifications and Aptitudes:
- Must the mission, vision, core values, and statement of Faith of AFC.
- A bachelor’s degree is minimum requirement. Bachelor degree in related area is an asset.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, conflict management skills, and computer skills.
- Possess a proven ability to work effectively with youth, diverse individuals, and teams of volunteers.
